RSVPS

1. When and where do I RSVP?

Why Include This: You want to make sure guests know EXACTLY how to RSVP and when they need to do it by. You will inevitably end up chasing down RSVPs no matter what, but the more clear you make it, the less guests you will have to track down in the last few weeks before the wedding.

Sample Answer: Please RSVP on our website by 10/06/2023. You are welcome to RSVP before this date!

2. What if I can’t make it?

Why Include This: For some reason, guests who know they won’t be able to attend the wedding tend to not RSVP instead of just saying “no”. Maybe this is because they are not sure if they will be able to attend or they feel bad for saying they can’t make it, but whatever the reason, it is much more helpful if you know one way or the other! Having this on here may encourage guests to go ahead and decline if they know they can’t make it.

Sample Answer: You will be missed, but we completely understand. Please RSVP “no” as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.

3. I can’t attend all events – is that okay?

Why Include This: If you are asking guests to join you for multiple events, like a rehearsal dinner, welcome party, or farewell brunch, you may want to include this FAQ on your wedding website. This lets guests know that they are welcome at the events, but their attendance is not mandatory.

Sample Answer: Of course! Come when you can – just don’t forget to RSVP “no” to events you won’t be attending.

4. Can I bring a guest?

Why Include This: This is one of the MOST IMPORTANT questions to include on your wedding website FAQ page and, unfortunately, a bit of an awkward one. Your response depends on how you are handling plus ones, but your guests will definitely be wondering if they can bring one and they need to know the answer. Whatever you decide to do, make it very clear with this FAQ.

Sample Answer #1: If your invitation includes an option for a plus one, then yes! We look forward to celebrating with you and your guest.

Sample Answer #2: Your invitation is addressed to those who are invited. If it includes a guest by name, then yes! If not, we prefer to just have you attend.

Sample Answer #3: Although we would love to offer a plus one to all guests, we have a strict guest list to stay on budget and meet our venue restrictions. We appreciate your understanding and can’t wait to celebrate with you.

5. Can I bring my kids?

Why Include This: This is another awkward question, but also really important to include. If you are welcoming children, then this is no big deal, and you might not even need to include it.

However, if you have decided to have a kid-free wedding, you’ll probably want to include this as a reminder. I would also advise that you make it clear on your invitations that children are not invited and to let families with children know personally. This post from The Knot discusses 10 things to consider about children at your wedding and how to address your expectations with your guests.

Sample Answer #1: We want you to be able to kick back, relax, and celebrate with us, which is why we have decided to have an adults-only event. We appreciate you making arrangements to leave the kids at the home.

Sample Answer #2: We welcome your little ones! We just ask that you keep a close eye on them and remove them from the ceremony if they are disruptive.

6. Do you have a registry?

Why Include This: Guests will want to know if you are registered somewhere and what they should get you for a wedding gift. You should include a separate place for your registry on your website, but it can’t hurt to mention it here as well. If you are asking for cash contributions instead of gifts, make it clear how you are collecting those. I recommend using Honeyfund.

Sample Answer #1: We are so excited to celebrate with you. While gifts are not expected, we have registered for a few items to help us kickstart our life together. Our registry can be found here.

Sample Answer #2: Your presence at our wedding is the best present of all and we are lucky to have all that we need. However, if you would like to get us a gift, we would appreciate contributions toward our honeymoon fund. You can find the link to our Honeyfund below.

Dress Code

7. What is the dress code?

Why Include This: Guests will ABSOLUTELY be wondering what they should wear to your wedding. It was hands down the most frequently asked question I got when planning my own wedding. If a dress code is important to you, you should very clearly explain your dress code and preferences.

Even if you don’t care that much about what guests wear, I promise you, some guests will still agonize over it. Explaining the dress code here will help your guests feel at ease and keep (some of) them from asking you what they should wear! If you need help describing your dress code to guests, this post goes over the major dress codes in detail.

Sample Answer: The dress code is semi-formal. For men, we suggest a suit, blazer, or button down with pants. For women, a dress, jumpsuit, or dressy separates would all work.

8. What colors should I wear?

Why Include This: This one is not necessary if you don’t have a preference, but many times, couples would prefer their guests to wear colors that match their wedding theme. This is to elevate the photos and to make the wedding appear more cohesive. For example, if you are getting married in November, you might request that guests wear fall colors. If you are having a beach wedding, you might prefer guests to wear lighter colors and pastels.

Sample Answer: We invite you to join us in wearing our wedding colors, which include neutrals like beige, soft pink, and terracotta, but any neutral color will do! For photos, we ask that you avoid extremely vibrant colors. Our bridesmaids will be wearing rust, and our groomsmen will be wearing black.

9. What shoes should I wear?

Why Include This: This question is mostly directed toward your female guests. If your venue is outdoors, there is a chance it is on sand, grass, or gravel. All three of these may impact the shoes your guests choose to wear. If your venue is outdoors, you should let your guests know so that they can plan accordingly!

Sample Answer: The venue is an outdoor bayfront property with lots of sand. We recommend that ladies swap out the stilettos for strappy sandals or short block heels.

10. What will the weather be like?

Why Include This: Although you can’t predict the exact temperature or chance of rain on your big day (if only, right?), you can do a bit of research to see what the weather is typically like that time of year. This FAQ is more important when you are getting married somewhere unfamiliar and a lot of guests are traveling.

Sample Answer: Although we can’t predict the exact weather, temperatures in the Keys in November are typically around 80 degrees during the day and 70 degrees at night.

Accommodations

11. Where should I stay?

Why Include This: Even if you are getting married where most of your friends and family live, you will probably have at least a few out-of-town guests. Although you should include more specific details on the travel page on your website, it might be helpful to include it on your FAQ page as well. If you have hotel room blocks, include the name of the hotel again and direct them to visit your travel page for more details.

Sample Answer #1: We have reserved hotel room blocks for guests at Hotel Duval. Please see our Travel Page for more information on booking your stay.

Sample Answer #2: While we do not have hotel room blocks reserved, there are many hotels and Airbnb’s available very close to the venue. Please see our page on Travel for suggestions and more information.

12. Will transportation be provided?

Why Include This: If you have booked transportation for your guests, be sure to include all details on your travel page and this FAQ. Guests should know the name of the company and where and when they will be picked up and dropped off.

Sample Answer #1: We have arranged for a shuttle to transport guests to and from the hotel and the venue. Please meet in front of the hotel at 3:00 pm. The shuttle will return to the hotel at 10:00 pm.

Sample Answer #2: We are not providing transportation to and from the events, but the ceremony and reception are in the same location and there is plenty of parking available. If you do not wish to drive, we suggest taking an Uber or Lyft.

13. Is there parking available?

Why Include This: Parking can be difficult or limited at some venues. If that’s the case, you will want to explain that to your guests so they can be prepared. For example, they may need to arrive earlier or bring cash if there is a valet. Even if it is not complicated and there is plenty of parking, including this FAQ gives your guests peace of mind because they will know what to expect.

Sample Answer #1: Yes, there is plenty of parking on site. After you park, walk through the large black gates and down the pathway toward the beach.

Sample Answer #2: Parking at the venue is somewhat limited. For this reason, we suggest carpooling or taking an uber. If the parking lot is full, there is more parking available for $10 across the street.

The Ceremony

14. What time should I arrive?

Why Include This: Arrival times for the ceremony can be a bit confusing. If you have your ceremony start time on your invitation, guests should arrive before then, so they have time to park, walk up, and find a seat. For example, if your invitation says that your ceremony starts at 4 pm, you probably want guests to start arriving around 3:30 or 3:45. If you have something planned before the ceremony, like welcome drinks or entertainment, you should make it clear when guests should be at the venue.

Sample Answer: Please plan on arriving at 3:30 pm to give yourself time to get a drink and find a seat before the ceremony begins at 4:00.

15. Can I take photos?

Why Include This: If you are having an unplugged ceremony, I highly suggest including this wedding website FAQ. This is a great way to let guests know ahead of time that you would like for them to keep their phones away during the ceremony.

You can also use this as an opportunity to share your wedding hashtag or any photo sharing apps you may want your guests to use.

Sample Answer: We have hired a professional photographer to capture our special day and ask that you do not use your cell phones during the ceremony. However, you are more than welcome to take photos and videos of the rest of the night!

16. What happens after the ceremony?

Why Include This: Guests are probably wondering if there will be a co*cktail hour and if food and drinks will be served. If guests are moving to a separate location for the co*cktail hour and reception, let them know that here.

Sample Answer: After we say “I do,” we welcome you to join us for co*cktail hour where we will serve beer, wine, co*cktails, and light hors d’oeuvres. We will take our seats for dinner at 5:30.

The Reception

17. Will there be an open bar?

Why Include This: Let’s be honest, you know your guests are wondering about the bar situation. This is an opportunity to let you guests know if you will be having a full bar, partial bar, or cash bar. If you are having a cash bar, you want to let your guests know so they can be prepared to pay. You could also rephrase this question to “will alcoholic beverages be served?” if you wanted to.

Sample Answer: Heck yeah! We will be offering select wine, beer, and signature co*cktails.

Sample Answer: Heck yeah! We will be offering a full open bar of wine, beer, and spirits.

Sample Answer: The bar will be open during co*cktail hour following the ceremony. After that, alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. We suggest bringing cash.

Pro Tip: An “open bar” just means that you are covering the bar tab and guests do not have to pay for their drinks. You could either have a full open bar (where guests can order pretty much any drink under the sun) or you can serve select beer, wine, and/or co*cktails. I suggest the latter. This will save you tons of money and guests will just be happy they get free alcohol. This post by The Knot goes into detail about bar service for your wedding.

18. What time does the reception end? Will there be an after party?

Why Include This: Guests should know what they plan is for the night before they begin consuming alcohol. If there is a strict cut-off time that guests need to be off the venue property by, make that clear to your guests. If there is an afterparty planned at a separate location, they may need to plan transportation. Give your guest time to plan ahead so that you aren’t left scrambling on your wedding night.

Sample Answer: The reception will end at 10:00 pm, but we can continue the celebration on the property inside the main house!

19. Can I smoke on the property?

Why Include This: You’ll definitely want to include this one if your venue does not allow smoking on the property. This is a nice way of letting your guests know the venue rules. Additionally, if you would prefer guests to smoke in a designated area, you can let them know that here.

Sample Answer: The venue is a smoke free property. However, you are welcome to smoke in the parking lot just outside of the venue.
