WELL GIVING THE PLAYERS A CHANCE TO BE A TOURIST IN THEIR OWN CITY. WE FINALLY HAVE AN EXCUSE TO COME DNTOWOWN BECAUSE WE NEVER REALLY GET TO COME DOWNTOWN A LOT. Over 40,000 visitors will be out and about in Downtown Louisville this weekend, thanks to a national volleyball tournament. The Junior Volleyball Association is hosting over 1,o00 teams in its annual "World Challenge" in the Kentucky Expo Center and the Convention Center. Between the two venues, there are 130 courts expected to host 4,600 matches. Ian Cox, the spokesperson for Kentucky Venues, says they're expecting the tournament to generate a big profit for the local economy. "It's going to bring about an estimated economic impact of $15 million," Cox said. "It's in our top 15 events that we anticipated this year."Louisville teams are participating in the tournament, including teams from the KIVA Club. Hilary Pehlke of KIVA's 14U team says it's been really fun getting to be a tourist in her own city."We finally have an excuse to come downtown, cause we never really get to come downtown a lot," Pehlke said. "So it's been really fun getting to come down here, and there's a lot of fun stuff to do."The tournament is for junior girls between the ages of 12 and 18. Games started Friday and will continue through Sunday night.
