Easy Mocktail Lemon Drop Recipe – Simply Southern Mom (2024)

Written by Pam Published on

Spring is here and that means sitting out on my patio in the evening. And what better way to enjoy a spring evening than sipping a drink and dreaming of tropical vacations? The kids had been asking me to make them something to drink so I checked the fridge for ingredients and came up with this Easy Mocktail Lemon Drop recipe. It only takes two ingredients and tastes delicious. Plus, adding a ring of colored sugar around the rim gives it a festive touch and makes it a perfect recipe to serve to guests. Did I mention it is a gluten free mocktail so everyone can enjoy it?

To make the recipe I used a 2 liter bottle of club soda and one 12 ounce container of frozen lemonade concentrate. You can use regular or pink lemonade to vary the colors. If you want a lower calorie version, substitute the frozen lemonade concentrate for one family sized package of pink lemonade drink mix (like Crystal Light.) The version made with the lemonade concentrate will be tart, while the version with the drink mix will be sweeter.

To make the sugared rims on the glasses, dip the rims of a glass evenly in either corn syrup or water. Corn syrup helps the mixture stick to the glass better, but water works and has no calories or preservatives. Spread the sugar evenly over a flat surface and dip the glass straight down into the sugar. You might have to dip the glass twice to make sure it is covered evenly. Shake off any excess sugar.

Sour Lemon Drop Mocktail

Ingredients

  • 1 1 liter bottle club soda
  • 1 (12 ounce) container of frozen lemonade concentrate (regular or pink) OR 1 family sized container sugar free pink lemonade drink mix (like Crystal light)

Instructions

  1. Mix the lemonade concentrate (or the lemonade drink mix) with the club soda and stir until mixed. Serve immediately or keep in fridge until ready to serve.

It’s always fun trying to make a mocktail because I know the kids think it’s fun to have something that looks like an adult drink. Honestly I don’t drink a lot of alcohol so I would like this better than ones with alcohol in it myself.

FAQs

What's a lemon drop drink made of? ›

A lemon drop co*cktail is simple to make at home. I like to use lemon vodka, triple sec orange liqueur, lemon juice (fresh squeezed), and lemonade for built in sweetness! Give it a shake with crushed ice, strain into a sugar rimmed martini glass, and enjoy!

What is a substitute for triple sec in lemon drop? ›

Lemon Drop Martini without triple sec

Without triple sec you can use orange liqueur. If you want no liqueur, I'd recommend replacing the liqueur in the recipe card for sugar syrup. It'll be missing a little something and taste more like a boozy still lemonade, but if you like sour, it'll work just as good.

What can I substitute for lemon drops? ›

Experienced brewers have chosen the following hop varieties as substitutions of Lemondrop:
  • Cascade.
  • Motueka.
  • Liberty.
  • Mandarina Bavaria.
  • Centennial.

What's the difference between a lemon drop and a lemon drop martini? ›

The lemon drop is not technically a martini. A classic martini is a savory drink of gin, vermouth, and olive brine. Not a pucker-inducing sweet sipper of vodka, orange liqueur, and lemon juice. The only similarity between a martini and a lemon drop is the serving vessel.

Can you use OJ instead of triple sec? ›

What is a non-alcoholic substitute for triple sec? A non-alcoholic substitute for triple sec is orange juice or orange extract mixed with simple syrup or sugar. Another option is to use an orange-flavored syrup or orange bitters, which can provide a similar flavor profile to triple sec without the alcohol.

Is blue curaçao just triple sec? ›

The main point of difference between a curaçao and a triple sec is that curaçaos usually have additional herbs and spices, making them softer and rounder, while triple sec is purely orange flavoured.

Can you replace triple sec with simple syrup? ›

You're still losing out an element of flavor, though. A margarita made with simple syrup instead of triple sec will still be delicious, but you'll be missing the hint of orange that's signature to the drink (and, in effect, you'll be making a Tequila gimlet).

Are lemon drops healthy? ›

The term “lemon drop” can be associated with cough drops or throat lozenges that are lemon flavored. Lemons are also rich in vitamin C and the ones that are made with real lemon juice also could provide relief for constipation, nasuea and even fight some forms of cancer.

Can you order a lemon drop shot at a bar? ›

The Lemon Drop. This very common co*cktail can come as a shot or in a martini glass. It's a combination of vodka (commonly citron-flavored), fresh-squeezed lemon juice and sugar that threatens to leave you with a hangover. People love Lemon Drops because they're fruity, sweet and often come in a glass rimmed with sugar.

Does lemon drop taste like alcohol? ›

A lemon drop is a vodka-based co*cktail that has a lemony, sweet and sour flavor, prepared using vodka, triple sec, and fresh lemon juice. It has been described as a variant of, or as "a take on", the vodka martini, but is in fact closer to a white lady variant.

What is a lemon drop martini made of? ›

The only spirits needed for this recipe are vodka and triple sec, which is an orange-flavored liqueur. For a splurge, look for Cointreau, which is a high-quality French triple sec. Other than that, all that's needed are lemon juice (fresh squeezed is best) and simple syrup.
